It's because the emotion is the same. It's not about whether he's actually cursing, or not. It's about the emotion. We're wired to respond to emotion and we're actually wired to forget about the words people say.
It's completely bizarre to me, but I've been researching this propensity to just respond to the emotions of life and forget about what "actually" happened. Here's a great article from TIME on that exact thing--click here.
Apparently, our memories are wired to help us imagine the future and we're awfully prone to embedding experiences in emotion. So, what sort of emotional memory are you leaving your clients with--it's much more important and lasting than any words you say!
